I finished Cold Days and finally had time in my schedule to post a review.
Cold Days picks up where Harry Dresden is no longer dead, or anywhere near it. Dresden may wish he was dead though. He is now the tool of Mab, the Winter Queen and she is putting him to the test. Day after day of fighting to stay alive. Then when he is finally given his first task it is unbelievable. The Faerie Ladies deceive Dresden and as often happens he falls into the trap of trusting the wrong person.
Butcher uses his usual comic writing for Dresden making the book as enjoyable as usual. Were you left with questions about what was happening in the last book? In any of the books? Harry Dresden’s life, and the world he lives in, is brought into focus in this book answering questions and revealing secrets. Often Harry has felt like forces were stacked against him and at the end of the day decided that they weren’t. Well maybe they were. Has every enemy that Dresden fought led to one disturbing truth? Either read Cold Days or go to Demon Reach to find out.
As a follow up to the post announcing my completement of NaNoWriMo I figured that I should include one last word count bar.
For this post I choose the slightly different style widget for a reason. It may sound superficial and a little like bragging but complete NaNoWriMo and you will see what I mean. This widget displays the red word WINNER. Seeing that on your badge gives you an amazing feeling. There is also now one replacing theparticipantbadge on the right side. Also there is one at the bottom of the page for when the right side one is removed. Congratulations to all of the other NaNo winners out there!
In the last five days I have been lucky enough to attend two amazing author’s signings.
Believe it or not I had not planned to get a book signed by one of my favorite authors while in Vermont. But since he was part of my inspiration for wanting to work there I was looking at his website as my Dad and I talked about him. I happened to pull up his appearances page and there he was, in a town not 25 minutes from where I was. Meeting him made an awesome trip perfect.
Sorry Jim that you had to follow that other signing but you came after. Your trip was planned though. I had seen that you were coming to town the first day that you posted it on your blog. Then as soon as tickets became available I got one. The signing was great as was the Q&A. P.S. I get to write a page on the overall experience for class credit.
You need to tell yourself: You can do this, you can be a writer.
What would Harry Do?
(Referring to your dreams) You’ve got to make to make it yourself.
Over all both signings were great and it was nice to meet my two favorite authors!
On November 27th 2012 Jim Butcher’s new addition to the Dresden Files (one of my favorite series), Cold Days, is being released. Cold Days is book number 14 in the series and supposedly picks up where the last one leaves off. It is available for pre-order on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Amazon is charging $16.18 with a pre-order guarantee and prime members get free two day shipping like normal.
On the same day as the release Butcher is doing a reading in Seattle, WA and signing books. I purchased my book through the signing and have purchased a ticket. I can’t wait for the event. Tickets are still available on Brown Paper Tickets for the Seattle event. Never fear if you don’t live in Seattle there are other locations listed in a post on Jim Butcher’s website.
Also, for those who don’t mind spoilers (I dislike them greatly) there is also a live Q&A with Jim Butcher. This event requires an RSVP. More information can be found here. During the live chat Jim Butcher will be talking about Cold Days and answering questions.
