First NaNoWriMo Update – Day 6

Here comes my first NaNoWriMo update and it is off with a blast.  Up until yesterday, Day 5, I have been ahead of the game.  I took yesterday off of writing because I was ahead and just wanted to watch a movie with my fiance.

As of writing this first NaNoWriMo update I have already taken steps to catch back up on my writing.

It is very interesting that this year I have spent a lot more time planning stuff out than in the past years.  I find myself taking breaks to write character information down and setting information down so that it is easier to access later.  Already, despite it being the first NaNoWriMo update, I have found myself referencing it.

Scrivener has played a major role in my story writing progress so far this year.  I have been writing everything in Scrivener and daily compiling a manuscript PDF.   This allows me to view character and setting information in the same program as I am writing in.

So far the Seattle, Washington word count chart has shown days 1,3,4, 5, and 6 as being relatively even in number of words written.  Day 2 of NaNoWriMo showed about double the other days.

First NaNoWriMo Update Sample

For the first NaNoWriMo update I have decided to share the first few paragraphs of chapter one.  I ask you to please remember that these paragraphs are still in a very rough form and will likely change even before November is complete.

Sergeant Jensen pushed Abdul Kalida forward.  Stumbling he turned around and grunted something at her in Arabic.  It sounded harsh despite the fact I didn’t speak the language.

“Kalida move it.”  I quipped quietly.  It was night out and I didn’t want my voice to carry.

My words earned me a glare from the sergeant.  Inside my head I told her that I knew she was a strong soldier but it was still my responsibility to control the detainee.

“Jasp, ov…” Before Sergeant Fowler could finish his sentence there was a crack and Kalida’s head exploded.

There was a delay as I dove to the side but it was only moments.  Two of my team members dove away two but Taylor Jensen stumbled back a step and toppled to the side.
